About

Priyam Dubey (he/him) is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Theater and Dance at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He completed his M.A. in Performance Studies from Ambedkar University Delhi and his undergraduate degree in Physical Sciences with Computer Science from the University of Delhi.

Priyam began his creative journey with street theatre in Delhi Colleges Theatre Circuit, later working in stage productions, documentary filmmaking, and performance actions. He has also appeared as a tertiary cast member in a Netflix original, directed a documentary film, and assisted on short film projects.

His research explores all-women performance spaces in India, focusing on how these performative practices enable women to negotiate patriarchy, reclaim agency, and build networks of collective healing. His article, “Exploring the Unraveled Naktauri-Geet: A Study on a Ritual Performance in an All-Women Space in a Hindu Marriage Ceremony,” has been published in the International Journal for Multidisciplinary Research (IJFMR). Through his practice and research, Priyam continues to engage with questions of gender, embodiment, and resistance within contemporary performance cultures especially in community performance spaces in India.

Priyam has qualified the UGC-NET examination with All India Rank 1 in Performing Arts (June,2024) and is a recipient of the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) awarded by the University Grants Commission, India.
