Technical Director Position Available

The Department of Theater and Dance seeks Technical Director (TD) for immediate, full-time position. Under general direction of Production Manager, TD oversees all the technical elements and activities (except costumes) related to department's season of theater and dance productions. Acts as liaison between designers and shops to ensure all designs are translated and executed properly: includes communication with designers, creating working drawings, scheduling all builds, budgeting, facilitating technical rehearsals, and the administration and training of student run crews. Responsible for the use of safe practices in all technical areas. Supervises 3 permanent staff members, including scene shop supervisor, lighting and sound supervisor carpenter/electrician. Reqs: BA in technical theater related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience and a minimum of two years of practical technical theater experience. Desired Reqs: Supervisory experience and work in an educational environment. Recent MFA graduates in Technical Direction are encouraged to apply. Expertise in scenic, lighting, and sound technical elements; skilled in scenic carpentry, rigging, and welding; fluency in CAD. Strength in communication and enthusiasm in working with students highly desired. Notes: Fingerprint background check required. Maintain a valid CA driver's license.
