Bio

Rebecca Wear is a PhD candidate and a Chancellor's Fellow. She holds a BA in Theater and Women’s and Gender Studies from Middlebury College. Her research areas include Asian diasporas, neoliberalism, and feminist theories of labor. She studied Mandarin through the Huayo Scholarship in Taiwan and is a current UC Critical Refugees Studies Collective Grant recipient in partnership with playwright Lisa Dring
 
Selected directing credits include Regretfully, So the Birds Are by Julia Izumi (Ojai Playwrights Conference); The Chinese Lady by Lloyd Suh (Artists at Play/Greenway Court: Ovation Recommended); Samsara by Lauren Yee (Coeurage Theatre); Gang Sines by Malique Guinn (UC Santa Barbara New Works: Kennedy Center's Hip Hop Theatre Creator Award); If the Saints by Eric Conner Marlin (Metro Baptist); Obedient Steel by Chloe Brown (HERE arts); and I Run with You by Anna/Kate (Women’s Center Stage). She associate directed the world premiere of Lynn Nottage’s Sweat (Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Arena Stage) and has assisted Kate Whoriskey and Diane Rodriguez. Rebecca trained with SITI Company and was an associate artist at The Orchard Project. She is currently a resident director with HERO Theatre and a 2019-2021 National Directing Fellow.
